Sign Language

A baby is born
Held lovingly by his mother
His parents share the joy,
Of their precious arrival

The little boy grows,
And plays boyish games,
While his mom cooks
She smiles sweetly at him,
She calls him
But the playing continues.
His dad comes home
And he calls, calls, calls…
The realisation
Something is not right,
Means a trip to the audiologist

The test begins with earphones,
And checking sound levels,
The little boy could hear only a few sounds,
The audiologist confirmed
And met with the parents to say
“He is deaf,”
The parents feel the loss,
But determined to remain positive,

The little boy grows up,
And his parents take him to a hearing school,
There he sits at the desk in front of the hearing children and the teacher,
The teacher speaks about the work,
And the boy tries his best
He looks at the hearing pupils,
As they speak to one another
He tries to follow their conversation,
During social time
He wanders in the hearing community,
Trying desperately to understand the words,
It’s a struggle
And it feels so hard,
But the boy never gives up,

As he grows to become a teenager
His teacher watches him and understands his feelings,
She calls a meeting with his parents,
And the parents accept he must go to a school for the deaf,

So he goes to the school for the Deaf,
He sits at the desk in front of the Deaf pupils and teacher,
The teacher signs “Good morning everyone,”
The boy suddenly feels something special,
He looks at the Deaf pupils,
They chat in sign language to each other,
He tries to follow the conversation,
During social time
He wanders in the Deaf community,
He understands a lot,
There is no struggle,
The boy becomes happier,
Sign Language is in his heart,

As time passes
He completes his matric,
And after some time
He completes his university degree,

As time passes
The boy becomes a man.
And he looks at the two worlds,
In the Deaf world
He enjoys spending time with the Deaf Community,
Who understands sign language?
Sign Language is always precious in his heart.
In the hearing world
He enjoys spending time with family, friends, colleagues and others,
And tries to follow the Oral conversations,
But Sign Language is always precious in his heart.

Our People

He said, “What brings you here? For this Deaf person has no words for you to hear.”
But she said, “Nevermind this hearing man, for he, himself, has no words for this Deaf person to see.”
“What, what? I have no words for him to see? I spoke, and he misunderstood.”
“And he signed, but you misunderstood.”
“Well,” said they, “I would send Deaf to his people.”
“His people?” said he.
And they said, “Sign language.”

To Twist The Tales From…

What does the Signer want from him? It has been riddled, for sure, but his mind pays the respect’s gesture, and said to the Signer, “I shall sign language that dialect from you. WILL ME SIGN WHY? ME UNDERSTAND EASY COMMUNICATE. Though, I may use English to interpret sign language, but what you sign is not English, but sign language.”

Well, you know English is very strict, very fussy.
Well, for me, I think English rules with grammar,
And the sentence, and also everything about the English language,
Well, I heard that some spoken languages are similar,
Well, to South African Sign Language, or so I thought,
That they are flexible with subject, verb, object

What would the Language’s founder know about various languages if they have not researched enough about them? How the Voice can tell them from their mind and speak out of their mouth. Then I come out of the Earth with my one piece of the body, not speaking but signing, the hands speaking!

PERFECT ME NO BUT HE MIRACLE CREATOR OUR HIM PERFECT
YEAH, ALMIGHTY, PERFECT WHO MAKE LIFE LIVE GO-ON
BUT SOMEONE SAY PERFECT HIM WHO TAKE LIFE DIE GO-ON
YOU LIFE FOREVER WANT? YOU MUST GOOD OR MORE GOOD-GOOD-GOOD
OR YOU STRESS HAVE, OR ANYTHING BAD, YOU LIVE LONG NO

Somebody would say, what is he thinking? Where does it lead to
But although, the Life knew everyone, but also the Death
Because they say it is Him that gives life, and then He takes them
But well, I come to Him in mind, saying, it shall be Thee
That one day everything else is miraculous, and all will say, that’s it?

That’s it? The Remember of the Miracle always performs the remembrance’s miracle. It is how the riddle dances, the Miracle shall perform all to seal all ones’ mouths or hands even thoughts, “They won’t word this, you are a demon.”

Then somebody would say, what was he thinking? While they at home
Busy thinking, what was he thinking? Then their soul preach to themselves
As if they bought the gold’s tongue that serves the Lord our Holy Creator
Oh yeah, they get it; he is right to think that is miraculous for everyone
To exist why they are on the Earth and why their languages so many.

A straight saying, they have written their languages
English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, etc
Let me write South African Sign Language, in my own
Although, SASL is not officially written, oh, I guess

HOWZIT-YOU-WELL?
TODAY SUN BEAUTIFUL SHINE-OVER-THE-WORLD
YOU-WELL ME HOPE, HOPE, HOPE, WHY?
YOU NEED WELL BELIEVE HOLD-YES-YOU-CAN

The straight saying, they have written their languages
So, let me write SASL using English words
BUT NO ENGLISH SIGN PLEASE
SASL THIS (SASL) NO SPOKEN LANGUAGE

But I know that SASL has dialects, varies, variations
What can I do? It is not our fault that the apartheid
Made SASL be like, no choice but to bring oversea’s
Sign languages, yes, some like ASL, BSL, Irish SL

SASL NOT SIGN LIKE NO AUXILIARIES
WELL-HMM-HOWEVER ME KNOW NOT OTHER LANGUAGES
BUT ME KNOW ENGLISH ONLY SO ME SHOW ENGLISH WRITE
BUT NOT ENGLISH POWER, NOT ENGLISH STRUCTURE

Every language has its own rule to structure and grammar
Every language has its reasons why due to their dominations
WELL SEE SOUTH AFRICA ELEVEN OFFICIAL LANGUAGE HAVE
BUT WE DEAF WANT WHAT? SASL ADD, OFFICIAL TWELVES LANGUAGE

Be good

Translation from South African Sign Language into English

Be good, be good, and be good
All of you know that we have heard or seen for a thousand times
That keeps telling us, so this sentence is
Be good, be good, and be good
The history its timeline that they kept telling us
Be good, be good, and be good, this they kept telling us
Because some people were and are not to be good
However, they continue to keep telling us even we all know it
That we have heard or seen for a thousand times
We all know but still, continue to keep telling
Until when one day we finally, be good
